Introduction
Jian Zhang (Scopus Author ID: 55900090500) was born in Shuyang, Jiangsu, China in 1984. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Jiangsu University. He also received his second Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Saitama Institute of Technology, Japan. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Chinese Ship Scientific Research Center. He has worked with School of Mechanical Engineering, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology for about 15 years and has been Professor since 2020. His research interests include buckling of shells, integrity of pressure hulls, bionic design and structural optimization of components in Ocean and Civil engineering. His basic research is conducted under the background of deep submersibles. Firstly, the evaluation model of ultimate strength of pressure hulls is innovated, so that the ultimate pressure versus geometry, material, and imperfection parameters can be quantitatively described. Secondly, the bionic design method of oval pressure hulls is put forward, so that the optimal coordination of solid mechanics, hydrodynamics and human factors engineering is achieved under multi-scenario applications. Finally, the dieless bulging approach of atypical pressure hulls is established, wherein the structural design and performance evaluation of multi-meridian preforms are successfully completed. The key achievements have been applied to the development of several deep submersibles. It has played a key role in the development of deep-sea science and technology. As the first signatory, he has been awarded by the second prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award together with two excellent awards of China Patent Award. As the first author, he has published 60 Web-of-Science-indexed papers, including 30 JCR-1 journal papers. Also, he has published six monographs, of which two have been supported by the national publishing fund. As the first inventor, he has patented more than 190 invention patents, of which about 70 patents have been promoted. As the project leader, he has been in the charge of General Project of NSFC, Youth Project of NSFC, and Excellent/Distinguished Youth Foundation of Jiangsu Scientific Committee. In addition, he has been awarded by the leader of Jiangsu Science and Technology Innovation Team and the young academic/technical leader of 333-Engineering of Jiangsu Province. At present, He is associate editor of Ships and Offshore Structures and guest editor of Metals, Frontiers in Materials, and Journal of Marine Science and Engineering.
