Jian Zhang was born in Shuyang, Jiangsu, China in 1984. He received his B.S., M.S., and Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Jiangsu University. He also received his second Ph.D degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Saitama Institute of Technology, Japan. He was a postdoctoral fellow at Chinese Ship Scientific Research Center. He has worked with School of Mechanical Engineering, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology for about 16 years and has been Professor since 2020.

The research interest of Jian is pressure resistant theory and technology of high-end deep-sea equipment. He is chief designer of sample storage device for deep platform, director of the Jiangsu Provincial Key Laboratory of High-end Deep-sea Mechanical Equipment, and associate editor of the SCI journal Ships and Offshore Structures. His academic achievements break through the bottleneck of reliability design technology for deep-sea equipment in extreme environments. As the first contributor, he has won the Special Award for Scientific and Technological Progress from Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, the Second Prize for Science and Technology from Jiangsu Province, the Silver Award for the Jiangsu Patent, and two China Patent Excellence Awards. As the discipline leader, he has been selected as a national young talent, Jiangsu excellent science and technology innovation team, high-level talent in the 333 Project and Six Talent Climax Plan. He has hosted 14 provincial and national research projects, including National Natural Science Foundation (two for general project and one for young project), Major Special Project for National Science and Technology, National High-level Talent Special Support Program, and Jiangsu Outstanding Youth Science Fund. As the first or corresponding author, he has published over 110 academic papers, including 76 SCI-indexed papers. Also, he has published six academic monographs, two of which were funded by the National Publishing Fund. He has been authorized 58 invention patents of China, America, Japan, and Korea, including 36 applied patents. Under the guidance, two young scholars have been selected for Chinese overseas postdoctoral talent introduction project, his students won two gold awards in the China International College Student Innovation Competition, authored one excellent doctoral thesis and three excellent master's theses from Jiangsu Province.
